TLS up and running

Bwoy.... u see when u don't fully understand a thing u end up making PURE mistakes. Here i've been working on my SSL with LDAP. On the surface everything looked okay but when i checked out the logs i recieved some error messages.
Alas they were not really error messages..... i was seeing soemthing like:connection_read(11):

unable to get TLS client DN, error=49 id=0

Which was/is okay sine i'm not sending client certificates... it took me a flippin 2 weeks to know that. When i used ethereal to sniff my network that is when i noticed the information WAS being encrypted when i do a ldapsearch!!!!

Moving on to next project!!!!! :D

Minime.. Parts

Last niht i picked up the parts for Minime... you remember the part so that she can run a little quiter and cooler.

Wellll.. the quiter part is relative right now as i put in the new case fan and new heatsink& fan. It's not as LOUD as before but there is some unwated dB in the mix.. i'll live with it. This baby sucks some air.. let me tell u!!!!! I was surprised at teh amount of air i felt it sucking through, not upset about that buy at all. I want to install the Zalman soon.. but i'm going to need to get minime under the knife first.

I finally have it up and running on y Ubuntu Breezy!!!! The remote works also. After about a good 2 weeks of solid work on it i have it up and running.
Now i just have to basically fine tune it.. cable channel listings point it to my music collection remap some keys for the remote,etc. little shit like that.

Ohh one other important thing i need to do is setup another instance of lirc so my PC can chage the channel on the cable box.
Ecstatic can not compare to what i am feelign right now after all of this.

Well .. I FINALLY have Minime understanding the key presses on the remote. There is soem twekaing i hae to do BUT i see it getting a weee little closer now :-).

After this i need to do soem scripting so the Minime can chagne the stations on the cablebox that i got from my cable company.

Kernel woes

I've recompiled my kernel about 5 times in the last 2 days to try get my PVR-150 installed an running properly with the new 2.6.16 vanilla kernel. On doing some googling i cam upon a page that told me that i have to enable some stuff in my kernel to allow ivtv 0.6.2 to compile properly with the new kernel.
i kept on getting:

Welll.... it's been a few days. I've wanted to update the blog a few times BUT other things always seem to take precedence.
Minime has gotten a few extra parts.... namely the IR Blaster --->

It's not Complete yet.. i even got the nifty little remote URC-8910 (ok it's not so little)

The thing now is to put these together into/onto Minime to get a nice working Media PC aka MythTV, that i can control with my trusty new remote. Honestly though the hard par is going to be the channel listings arrrghhhh...

Well the weight is coming off... slowly but surely.. i've been slacking off for the past few days.. actually for the past week and a half. I'll make up for it though... leaving my current employer soon so NUFF headache soon gone... yiipppeeee!!!!

Ok I've been walking for a few weeks now. At first it was hard but i must admit it has gotten easier. I fear the damage has been done though. :(
I went to the doctor... i'm 273lbs!!! my pressure is wayyy too high 162/111. She decided to UP my pressure medicine and also gave me heart pills?!?!? I'm like what the fuck!!!!!!!

I went to the pharmacy to pick up the medicine $2,400 JA dollars ($1JA=$66 US). No wonder she even gave me a National health card to fill out so i can get my medication at a reduced rate.
Man something's got to change.. and it seems litk it has to be drastic for right now. I think he pressure was/is so high i basically slept the whole day.

Why am I playing around with this shit?! I know what high BP can do.. and yes i'm scared but it seems to not really phase me to much.

Ok i have MythTV working on MiniMe right.... The thing that has me right now is that u can't use the mouse ggrrrr. Which i'm finding out is purposely done that way... u are meant to use a remote. So to add to my shopping list i need to get a IR Blaster or rs232 IR Blaster. With my current cable box its seems the rs232 would work better

Yea u saw correctly 265LBS!!!!!!!!! What is my 5'9" frame doing with that much weight?!?!!? Well I know for one thing I don't intend to keep it on too long. Granted it's easier said than done... but come on man that weight is ridiculous I'll shall do my best to get rid of it.
No wonder more time i feel like shit!
Even though I should try and walk 7 days a week i know for sure that aint going to happen not with my work schedule. Going to at least try for 5 rimes a week... be it in the morning or evening I HAVE to keep at it.

Yep My Shuttle FS50 is up and running... sorta anyway. I was able to get P4 1.8A processor and it running fine right now. I just need a burner and a big ass hard drive. I'm thinking about putting a 200GB in there but not sure. As you can see from the pics it's a tight squeeze.

Yea I've said it before, I'm going to lose weight.
There is a major difference now. I mean it!!!! For the past few days i've been wondering WHY my lower back has been bothering me, I think deep down i knew but was to flippin blind to notice. My beely is gettting to RASSS big!!! I look like i have a beer belly... worse part is is that i don't drink. I'm afraid to even get on the scale and see how much i weight right now.. about 6 months ago i know i was about 245lbs. Lord alone knows how much i am now :-(

After work i'm supposed to be going downtown and buy up some things like fruits and vegatables. Working in front of a PC and going home to do the same thing isn't really condusive of a healthy living.

Just to even prove how serious I am hopefully later on i'll post a pic of how i am currently.

Ok been doing the walking thing for 2 days now. Now I don't kow if its mind over matter BUT i do feel different since those walks. I felt like i had SO MUCH energy that after a walked up the hill after working the night shift io still never made it to bed till after 11-12pm!!!

I have the xgl/compiz running SWEETLY on my machine. Then i also got opacity plugin working by folling these steps on the ubuntu forum. For some reason which I haven't really found out as yet, the ubuntu deps doesn't provide plugin.

Now I can watch TV/Videos while still browsing the net or even doing some shit in a terminal window... I just turn the opacity down on the active window VOILA!!!!

As I look at my desk.. i'm a little dissapointed. My desk is a MESS. Maybe.. just maybe before i go to work this evening i'll clean it up.

Ohh before i forget..... that machine on the bottom is my main machine "bLaCk TOwEr" it's my main machine. I dual boot with it, Windows XP and Ubuntu Dapper (as of yesterday previously it was Breezy). The other machine near the phoneon a pinkish piece of rag is "Enigmatic" My Breezy Samba/LDAP PDC... yep that little machine right there is my little server. Hmm... i run Apache, Bind, DHCP and MySQL on that machine. Here is another pic for a closer look. You may be wondering .... why it look different from the pic I posted a few days ago. Reason for that is I had to put a bigger heatsink on this bad boy... If i didn't do that then when the machien gets hot shit starts to move liek a flippin snail. I've been to busy to get the case cut i can slide it back it.

Dapper Installed

Just installed Dapper.... so far so goood. I was having a problem with Grub giving me error install messages during the first install but i figured it was how my grub was at at that state. I had like 8 options in that bad boy.... I just got out my trusty Techiez Toolz cd booted from a Win98/XP option did:
fdisk /mbr .. voila able to boot again BUT of curse ubuntu is gone.

I could of taken the educational way and tried to just install GRUB but after a few failed attempts i just decided to reinstall Dapper and done.. it's not liek there was anything on that partition anyway.
Well it installed and updatign now..... 310mb's worth of upgrading.

It's another week. Nothing much has really changed... as they say same shit different day.
I decided to try Dapper, yeah i kow it's not final but the video and screenshots of Xgl and Compiz in action drove me to want to jump on the bandwagon. As i'm writing this my other machine is churning away the install... this is the second time i'm installing Dapper i had some probems with grub :-(

Arrghh enuff about PC's. Have I ranted how i'm really starting to HATE my job?!?!?! At first it was cool i was learning a few new things things but now the shit is just stagnant.... this is worse than a brain freeze!?!?! At one point I use to MURDA the OT ... for like 3 months i worked 148hrs, 75hours and 91 hours respectivley. NOW for the past 2 months I've only worked 24hours OT.. and that is over TWO months. So yeah i'm fed up of that place... BUT i'm no fool.. it puts money in my pocket so unitl i can get something better i shall stay there.

Have u noticed that more time what u study in school isn't what u end up doing in life?? Take look at some ppl u know and ask them what did they study at school... quite a few of them would have studied something vastly different then what theyare doing now. Why do i bring this up? Ive been delving into computers for more than 10years... if i'm honest with myself i haven't really reached anywhere.... Now is it my fault or is it that i just don't know the right ppl so i can land a decent job in the IT field?!?!

Whichever one it is it looks like i'll be branching off... there is a family business that started a few months ago and it looks like my father really wants me to join in the action... Yea i got my Hauppauge 150 working on my linux box BUT the true ablity to work as a PVR jsut not working out :-(
The channel listings alone will kill me.... the only place i can get listings for my cable company, Logic One, is tvguide.com. Alas there are no grabbers to take the listing info from the site. Another thing that has halted my little project is that even WHEN, i won't say if, i do get teh channel listings since i have to use a cable box it's almost useless to me...The PC can't change the channel on the cable box to the required channel u want to record. the ONLY way i can see it workign is that u set the cable box to go to the station then u have ur tv card set to record at the deigned time. :-(

Enuff of that... i can't bother with it right now.
This is the box i want to fix up for my medai PC.. be it MythTV or Media Center.

As you can see it is a small PC.. not as small as my SlimBay but still small with lots of features.... BUT i can't seem to find a P4 478Pin 400Mhz FBS proccessor :(( So for right now i just have this box laying here waiting on a CPU... what a waste

I got my pvr150 working.. YIIPEE!!!!
i think i can say it took me like roughly about 1hour to install. It wasn't really that hard.. once u follow the directions from . Howto:Ubuntu and Installing MythTV on Ubuntu 5.10 (Breezy) with a Hauppauge PVR-150/250/350/500 .

at first when i recorded a short piece by using:
cat /dev/video0 > /tmp/test.mpg
all i got was static... then while reading further to change the channel:
ivtv-tune -c # -d /dev/video0 (Where "#" is replaced by the channel that you want to tune to)
VOILA!!!! I'm watching TV.

Since i'm using a AMD64 i have to build Mythtv from source.

MythTV & Ubuntu (Breezy)

Well here i go.... I have my AMD64 machine running with both XPSP2 and Ubuntu 5.10. I can say right now, i don't kow if it is the memory or the new CPU but my system is FLYYYYIINNNGG!!!!!!!! I must truly say i like the small investment i put into this little machine.

Moving on... my Hauppauge PVR-150 works fine in Windoze BUT i have issues on ubuntu :-(. I found out i'm going to have to install kernell module ivtv to get it to recognize it. U know i think this driver is installed by default on SuSE?!?! Ohh well.....

Let me get back to my tinkering.. i'll keep this posted to how it comes along.

Well I finaly joined the 64bit bandwagon....to be honest is it a good thing?? I'll tell u in a few weeks when i have a 64bit OS to fully utilise the new instruction set. I tried loading the Ubuntu DVD i have to see how it would run on my sytem.. but when i chose the LIVE version.. it never booted properly.. so right now i'm gettign the 64 version.. hopefully that'll make a difference.

I'm also planning on getting another system to help with my networking stuff i plan on using a:
Athlon XP 1600+
512MB PC2100 (DDR 266MHz)
120GB IDE

It won't be a powerhouse sytstem but i know it'll more than get the job done.... what i face right now is should i give my sister my 'little machine' or keep it???

It's a nice little machine.... it can run everything basically EXCEPT for games. Right now i use it as my PDC server.

Yea it nerdy BUT after a friggin 2 month hiatus on my *nix box and messing with Samba/LDAP PDC I have it working.... the only thing is is that it is running WITHOUT ssl/tls. Soon i'll enable that i'm just glad that it is up an running smoothly so far.

There is sooo much shit going on right now around me?!?! I'm torn with saving for a car which is ALOT harder than i anticipated. Let me rephrase that i can get a car BUT it would probably be like a 10year old car. I don't want to finance since i'm a temp worker who is on a yearly contract who has NO idea what is around the corner. Imagine i get a car then after a few monthsmy temp job is over... thenthebank ends up taking back the car?!?!?! Not going to happen again!!!

Damn its been almost a month since i last updated this thing. As i write this i notice its been about the same time is started doing OT again that i posted here. Well idecide to take a week off from OT...... i need to get some stuff done and just need a break from the calls them.

Hypertension

Hypertension is a serios thing... why the hell do i take it so lightly more time?
I've been hypertensive from i was about 19-20.... and i haven't really done anythign to curb it. I've tried the gym for a little and it helped but after i got in the car accident i haven't really een to the gym.

I leave on a rhattid hill... where i really would not have a need for a gym to get some cardio excercise in. The thing is though after about a week I stop.... I can honeslty say i don't ahve the self discipline as my father does :-(.

I need to get that discipline though.... so many thigns can happen to me becasue of this high blood pressure... being in a high stressful job doesn't help either.
It really has me thinking (again)... especailly since they sent me home early from work because of my pressure :-(.

Finally... since i've redone my ubuntu installation. I got my DHCP/DDNS up and runnign in record time (well record time for me anyway :-) )
I understand it a little better know and i'm also going to save all te required files and place ina safe place.

Well i redid my ubuntu installation.... why u ask? Shit just seemed frigged up. Things were working but weren't working and it was starting to get to me. So i decided to start from scratch and pay closer attention to what i'm doing.
Look there it paid off already.....
I did some reading on bind (DNS) and tackeled it.. VOILA is worked.. no 3-5 hours trying to figure the thing out. Checked my logs adn everythign went fine. Now to edit the zone files and named.conf to my network needs then i'm on my way to DHCP (which is easy).

I'm now encoding music videos like MADDDD from my TV Card and putting it on my p910. Initially this thing was not something i really was going to get into, mainly because when tried to encode in mp4 the files them were HUGE!!! THEN i found this program Sorenso Squeeze 4.2 all i can really say is WHOA!!! I captured a video whic was like 180mb.. sorenso really SQUEEZED the little video to about 7MB!!!!

So after capturing, encoding and what not I found a new liking for my little phone. When wake up later on in the afteroon i'll see if i can take some screensots and put up here so u can have a clue on what i'm talking about.

Yea i got one... a 60GB one at that also. Withthis bad boy i canbasically put my ENTIRE mp3 collection in the palm of my hands.*** evil laugh***
I had a mini, the 4GB.. which was cool i like dit BUT i saw a oppurunity to upgrade an i took it an RAN!!! trust me the 2nd mini i had took some beating. I curved my 'beating' habits so i know this new pod will be cool. After i get soem much needed things for my place i'll get one of those skin thingies for my pod.
Hopefully by early next year.... The Holidays are coming up and i have to worry about presents for other ppl. I must say this year i can really afford to get my mother a NICE birthday/ Christmas present; not sure what i'll get her.. but i'll get her something nice.

Ok i had my mysql up and running... for like 2 days then BAM i decide to write in drupal when i go to the page to my shock it says unable to connect to mysql. First thing i go an do is look at my logs and see some whole heap of shit:
Nov 24 05:29:04 localhost mysqld[10873]: 051124 5:29:03 [ERROR] Fatal error: Can't open privilege tables: Table 'mysql.host' doesn't exist.

Make a long story short.... i ended up removing mysql-server then installin it back again. Before i could of removed mysql-server completely i had to do apt-get update; then remove the app....
I still don't know the REAL reason as to WHY i had to do it that way to get mysql up running BUT hey it works again.
Well after my next post back to configuring and doing what not :D

I decided I really am going to try and get asterisk up and running.... why pay for Netspeak when I i can sun my own SIP server. I have a small 800MHz machine i'll set it up on.
I just a 2nd hand case for the boad and chip so the next time i have off i'll at least hook it up.

Welll after about two days i have my Drupal CMS up an running. Yea right now it doesn't look to be too much BUT i must say it's nice to say i have CMS (content Management System) hehehehe.
You know it probably would of taken me longer to install because drupal's dependecy on mysql...luckily i know ppl who know that cryptic thing... Taylor. Yea i killed him with a few questions but he answered them to get my mysql up an running.

Honestly though I just really set it up so i can have my own litle journal where i keep some of my thoughts and wishes. Like how i got certain services up and running and what not. SO it'll be easier the next time ihave to do it.

Hey for the time being until i get my persoanl blog/diary system runnign on my sysetm i'm giong to be posting a lot of linux shit here.
Right now i'm about to configure my DDNS (Dynamic DNS) on my system... I figured i might as well start at the basics. most server realted things need a proper working DNS & DHCP.

Ok i found something interesting... when i was checking my logs i noticed a bunch of entries i NEVER saw before:

I noticed I only got those error messages when i pressed the arrow keys on my keyboard?!?!? After doing soem research i found out that for soem reason by defauly breez automatically bind some keys for laptop use. I noticed when i stoppped the process
sudo /etc/init.d/hotkey-setup stop
no more erroneous log entries.. now the thing is stop it permanently.. escpecially since i don't have a laptop. More digging lead me to do this:

sudo apt-get install rcconf
sudo update-rcconf-guide
sudo rcconf

Then uncheck the hotkey-setup service.

Ok Onward to DHCP...
I noticed unlike SuSE where u edit the /etc/dhcpd.conf itseems like u have to edit the /etc/dhcp3/dhcpd.conf . That shit took me like 2 friggin hours to figure that one out!!! ARRRGHHH!!!!!!

Getting my Ubuntu running the way i would like wasn't as easy as I thought, SuSE really does alot of things for u that we take for granted.
I started my trek to configure/install my new box at around 1:15am.

From what I've done so far i think i will like Ubuntu and it's package management "apt-get". Since I usually have problems with Firefox and some flash/shockwave sites i decided to tackle those first.... I got a lot of help if not MOST help from wiki.ubuntu .

To get Java running I followed the steps listed here i had to:
But before i could do the:

sudo apt-get install fakeroot java-package java-common

I had to add these enable the multiverse repositories. If you notice they repositories start with de.... why do they start with de?? Well when i use the us ones i get nothing but error.. hey it works and the links are still fast.

I noticed i was getting some

sooooooo i had to install gcc :

sudo apt-get install gcc

Isn't apt-get just cool!!!!
So i went back to:
fakeroot make-jpkg jre-1_5_0_05-linux-i586.bin
sudo dpkg -i sun-j2re1.5_1.5.0+update05_i386.deb

If you are running Breezy, you need to tell Ubuntu to use Sun Java instead of the open source GIJ included with it. Run:

sudo update-alternatives --config java

Well.. i can say one thing so far for sure after going throuh this insallation proccess of Ubuntu's. SuSE has made the install process PRETTY.... ook yea u can install suse in text mode BUT by default its GUI, NOOOOooo such thing with ubuntu straight CLI from the get go.

I downloaded the Breezy Badger 5.10 DVD to start my way into this distro. Upon putting in the DVD it asked me 3 things:
1 ---> press ENTER for Live DVD
2 ---> Type Install for home/deskop users
& 3 ---> Type Server for server use

Look at the time!! I have some more to write but i think if i contine any more i'll fall asleeep So i'm getting it anyway i can... cya in a few hours

I have a iPOD mini.. not to fancy like some of the other ppl out there but.. It plays music and i'm fine with it. Soooo If i'm fine with it WHY THE HELL DID I GO FRIG WITH IT???

I had my songs all jumbled up and in no coherent order... so to try an make my job easier i decided to format it and start freshhh.... BIG mistake. I formated the thing using windows disk management (yea i know i wasn't thinking to straight) I figured everything was okay until i started to copy, or should i say TRY to copy songs to the ipod from itunes?

I was like what the F&*K..... I did some research and and found out i needed the iPod updater wich can update it and also wipe it. So i got it and ran ran it...

NOOOOO......... thankfully we have google.. and about 5 mins worth of searching i got the answered i neded....
Yea I had to use the iPod updater BUT i also had to use a USB port that was attached DIRECTLY to the motherboard. Earlier I was using the front USB port via some cables attached to the board..,, enhce the error. I think usign the USB via the front USB port there is some power variation.
Here i am thinking i have got my iPod back... NOOOOOO After i update it with the updater It shows me a graphic on the screen saying that it wants to be plugged in :-( I don't have a AC adapter for my ipod... google here i went again.
I saw a post iPod help stating that instead of plugging it into a wall socket i should plug it into a firewire port. Well i did and VOILA!!!! no more little graphic YIPPEEEE i think i have my ipod back.
Ok back to organizing my music back on this thing.

Yo... I like this phone more than i thought i would. This shit rocks!!!!!! This one program, VoiceDialer Pro in particular has me HOOKED. The program is revolutionary... well at least to me it is, VoiceDialerPro will fetch the phone number from your contact list, and will then dial the number for you. Whiel it is doing that it is also askign you what number you to to dial mobile office home etc.!!!!!

This is all without traning the program to you voice. People there is no setup needed at all for this thing.. as u start it u just state who who want to cal then away it goes. No more fiddlning in your contact list for people and thier number(s) it's there literally at the tip of ur tounge.

Well moving on.... my Treo 600 is almost gone.. and p910i is right around the corner. The Treo is a decent PDA, I'll giv it that but as a phone FRIGG man... it bitch more than a crack fiend trying to go cold turkey. I must say i'm excited on getting the SE p910i thouhg.. i can search for some updated apps.. and have a more up-to-date smart phone at my disposal.

Basically all day yesterday i've fiddled around with this PVR thing to no avail. It's a nice idea when ur in the states where u can get a TV listings of your various stations. In Jamaica that is near impossible.... make it worse when u have to us a cable box nad keep ur TV card on one station that limits the ability of your TV Card.
One thing i can look into is descrambling the scrambled stations on my TV card....hmmmmm

Whew.... what a week i had!! After working for 14 days straight and in those 14days doing 73hours of Over Time; I can finally say I'm BEAT!! Thursday night alone i was just counting the seconds to leave.
Well moving on....... I got my tv-card WinTV-PVR Card now i'm just looking for a decent enuff software to use this thing with. Later on i really want to try MythTV ona linux setup.. it look HAAARRRDDD!!!!!!! Jus look at some of the screenshots. With all this future recording my little 40GB just isn't going to cut it anymore... hopefully end of this or next month i can buy a 160GB or 200GB HD. But alas on to testing out some PVR software.

I put in some serious hours @ work this evening!!! From Thursday till Now... i've been working 5pm-7:30am......... yep that is not a typo. You know i was even suppsoed to go in tonight 5pm -11pm but i opted not too since i'll be working 8am-11pm tomorrow; yes money is nice to have ubt it dones't make any sense you run yurself red.

But i must say i like night shift @ C&W.. it relatively easy and for like 3 hours or so you really have some time for urself to do what u want.

On to other matters.... i FINALLY got my USB-Ethernet Adapter for my nix machine on thursday; being so busy with work an all i wasn't really able to do anything till like TODAY. Good thing 'Nix is up an runnign again liek a champ!!!

P2P Future Darkens as eDonkey Closes .... them really making it harder for a man to get them hands on pirated stuff. Then again this is one of the reasons why i've always liked IRC; yea it not for the faint of heart.. but with some patience and a decent bandwidth u can do/get wonders!!!
Alot of the people who are on the net now they just know how to use Kazza, Shareza, eMule, etc.. the list goes on.... they just type in what they want hope they get a hit and voila just sit back and HOPE that the file that are waiting on is REALLY the file they want.
With IRC u have to put some work in your searches.... u have to find a server then u have to find the channel, hold up ur not down yet.. THEN u even have to find the person who has what it is u might want; THEN depending on tier connection u might have to wait in queue for ur file(s). Granted yea it's a little more work but 98% of the time when i do get shit from IRC i can rest assure its the REAL thing.

Taylor over on his blog said soemthign the other day i have to agrree with ten folds!!! No Credit Card = No Internet Life . How many times have you wanted to buy something online but was unable to becase of this damn 'plastic' ??? I've wanted a credit card countless amount of times for sales i've seen online for various stuff, albiet eBay or some other online site, to donate some money to or buy various products. But NOOOOOoooooo to no avail chained to asking frens who have a bigger bank books, or at least KNOW ppl with bigger banks books than me, to purchase these products for me. I mean some of these deals are soo good that even if u buy it online and ship it out here u still save money when u ship it out here.

Oh well I guess it's one of those things that we just have to go with the flow. i guess that was/is my rant for the day.... back to some cleaning.

Bowy.... after how many months of finally getting back a PC and playing some PC games i haven't been able to play. I have come across Rise of The Nations (ROTN).
I played a friend of mine, Profound, the other day and he basically handed me my ass in a platter; but alas i guess that wasn't enuff for me. Tonight, actualy just a few minutes ago, he basically ddid the the same thing again... but like the MAN i am.. i ran so I could fight back another day.

I have done a little better this time around.... i'm learing more of the hotkeys. I would say what I need to brsuh up on but my ENEMIES out there might use ANY info they have to kill me faster :D

Lightning....is a BITCH!!!

Friday we had some rhattid lightning and thunder.... first the rain just came out of nowhere!!!! when it came IT CAME. While it was raining i was sitting @ my PC as usual doing everything and nothing at the same time. Then I heard a roar from the thunder outside and like just seconds i saw some light which i assumed was lightning. Just seconds after that..... swishh.... light gone. First let me just say this wasn't just ur run of the mill thunder this bad bow was LOUD!!!! As violently as the thunder/lightning came it took my ADSL modem... an later on i found out it took my network card on my linux server :-(... in its wake. Here I was planning on buying a UPS for my machine den look deh i have to buy a new ADSL modem which is the same price as the modem.
I'm not sure how many of you guys reading this know how it feels to have a linux machine with NO NIC!!!!!!! it's liek taking a bath with no water. My fren Dale was with me when i discoverd the problem... and he can tell u i was utterly distraught. After bitching, yea i admit it I was bitching, I wasn't too happy at all at time. I was here contemplating like hell how i'm gonna get this machine to get back to working state. To make a long story short i ended up using a USB -to- ETHERNT in the machine and guess what di rass WORKED!!! ....... IT'S ALIVE!!!!
Now i just need to get a USB-Ethernet adapter for myself and away i go.....

Ok i had to buy another ADSL modem yesterday... mainly because of our lovely JPS grrrr. I had a X5 before i didnt really have any problems with it so i went back for another one; the other reason why i took the X5 was that i never wanted the Speedtouch. I think with this firmware update they gave the modem they have made it even more configurable Yipppeee!!!!!! But LAWD........ looking at some of screens will hurt ur head if u don't really understand networking.

I had to do some searching on how to open ports; here is what I found:

To open ports or a port range for unsolicited incoming traffic please follow these steps:

Go To Advanced Setup
Click on NAT
Select NAT Rule Entry from the drop down menu click on Add
- Rule Flavor: Select RDR
- Rule ID: enter 5 (by default there already 4 rules, so the next one is 5) Note: Rules 2, 3, and 4 close ports 21, 23, and 80 respectively. If you need one (or more) of these ports open you will need to delete the respective rule. Under no circumstances should you remove rule 1.
- If Name: Select All
- Protocol: Select the specific protocol required or ANY
- Local Address From: (IP address range) example: 10.0.0.5
- Local Address To: example: 10.0.0.10 (gives you a range of 5 IP addresses) if you want all IP addresses from your network, Type in 0.0.0.0 on both "From" and "TO". For a port to be opened on a single LAN PC type the same LAN IP address in the "From" and "TO" field.

When i was younger I couldn't WAIT till i was older so i could work and make my own money!!! I wanted to work so badly i ended up getting my first job when i was like12 working under the table at one car wash (all u slack ppl get ur minds out of the gutter grrrr)
Every now and then i think back on the school days and wish for those EASY days again..... when all u had to do was do some little homework sit back and listen to a teacher try an teach u somethign new. To make it even better nowadays the kids them have the INTERNET at thier disposal where if they know how to use it makes the work a WHOLE lot easier... granted dem still don't learn anythign but hey......
Work is full of so much damn politics, it come in like a war zone..... the only difference is that their are no guns to inflict bodily harm. The deciet, trickery an what not is bascally just as bad though!!!

I must say i liked the first Transporter movie... it wasn't great BUT it coulda watch. From the time i watched Snatch with Jason Statham i've grown to like the guy.

I found this little trick/hack while my usual browsing online.
If you want to see which programs you use the most, you can find out this information quickly in Windows XP's most frequently used programs list. Find out how you can configure this feature to prevent certain apps from appearing on the list. This is a nice little trick to use if your on a work PC and don't want certain people to know what applications you are using.

Fortunately, you can prevent an application from appearing in the Start menu's most frequently used programs list by adding a special key to the registry. Here's how:

Launch the Registry Editor (Regedit.exe).

Go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications.

Right-click the Applications key and select New | Key.

Name the key the same name as the application's executable file.

Right-click your new key and select New | String Value.

Name the string value NoStartPage.

Close the Registry Editor.

Reboot or log off and log back on for the change to take effect.

Note: Since editing the registry is risky, be sure you have a verified backup before saving any changes.

Finally I have a place i can call my own, my own studio apartment!!!!
It's not much BUT I can say it's mine in a sense.... own kitchen and bathroom and separate entrance from the main house. Yea it might not mean much to some ppl but to me a feel great.
NOW i just need to work on a rass car.. this hill is killer!!!

There are a few things that are yet to be done but all things will slowly come. One of the most major things that was stopping me was running some CAT5E cabling to the DSL modem upstairs. I ended up running 2 cables through some trunking to the 4 Port Zoom modem I have. Only thing i really need to worry abuot now is who might plug out the modem when 'they' feel like it.

It's another day.. another headache.... I'm going to reinstall SuSE 9.2 on my machine and start from scratch. First i'lll deal with dnsmasq.... so i can get the DHCP and DNS working properly on the machine. THEN i'll tackle the LDAP-Samba- PDC issue.

Well never did to much today... Ok I never did ANYTHING. I was hopign I would leave it alone come back to it and it work... NOPE!! Still have problems. I tried to view/logon from a windows machine no luck :-(
So i'm looking at my smb.conf again.... MAN the IDEALX scripte left out a BUNCH of shit... I see why i'm not seeign shit on my windows box. There we go.. once I added to my smb.conf:

domain logons = Yes
os level = 65
preferred master = Yes
domain master = Yes
security = user
encrypt passwords = Yes

I was able to get a logon screen... but alas all was not well.
I need to make the startup.bat file
I created an Samba user account, sambaSAMAccount (for use under Unix and Samba)
smbldap-useradd -amc "Wadup Sir" tester

That still never worked.... I messed around with soem othre things but was too lazt to document it.. but the good thing is when i'm through with it all... i'll have ALL the configs that i need... TRUST me i will keep them in well guarded area :-)

But i'm still poking around at it so wish me luck :D

I made a LDIF directory to keep al my ldif files... not that I really intend on making a lot of them. I added rootbinddn cn=nssldap,ou=DSA,dc=enigmatic,dc=corner to my /etc/ldap.conf . I'll admit I just added it because that was how they had it in the HOWTO... sue me. What I'm about to add are security accounts for Samba and Linux. So I then went and made a smbldap-dsa.ldif with those said mentioned accounts.

Enter LDAP Password:

I then set the default password for those accounts:

● the Linux (nss_ldap) security account, using 'nssldapsecretpwd' password:
ldappasswd -x -h localhost -D "cn=Manager,dc=suse,dc=cac" -s nssldapsecret -W cn=nssldap,ou=DSA,dc=enigmatic,dc=corner

Not sure what is going on here BUT that last comand is not working.

I'll just leave it for now since I don't even know what a SASL username is. Let say that I check my ldap and the nssldap is in there. :-/
All of those commands on one line. I had to go back and check something because something just never looked right. Upon sone more reading I decided to create /etc/ldap.secret with a chmod 600. In that file I had the the password for Linux (nss_ldap) security account.
Almost forgot I also added this.
● The smbldap-tools security account, using 'smbldapsecretpwd' password:
ldappasswd -x -h localhost -D "cn=Manager,dc=enigmatic,dc=corner" -s smbldapsecret -W cn=smbldap-tools,ou=DSA,dc=enigmatic,dc=corner

As we proceed. For some reason I had to copy over smbldap_tools.pm to /usr/local/sbin otherwise I would get some funky error. After that I then defined the 'Administrator' user's password :

Any user placed in the "Domain Admins" group will be granted Windows admin rights for the domain, but only the Administrator account is allowed to join computers to the domain.

Umm..... it worked BUT not completely the adding the user and user password worked fine with no problems (which I must say is FIRST). But when I try to login into the machine via ssh no luch. So I think the passdb backend has come back to haunt me.

Ok how mant times have I tried Samba/LDAP – PDC??? I've lost count. The frig up part to the whoel thing is that EVERY time I try it some a problem I had before is fixed BUT a new one arises?!?! After awhile the shit gets tiring.. trust me.
Over the next few days i'llpost the stuff i've done to try an get this working.
I edited three files initially
/etc/openldap/slapd.conf (added the NIS and samba schema)
/etc/ldap.conf and
/etc/nsswitch.conf

I'll prob post later what exactly I did to those files. To get nss working I also edited:
/etc/pam.d/login
/etc/pam.d/passwd
/etc/pam.d/samba
/etc/pam.d/ssh

That went cool are so I hope fingers crossed. It was time to install idealx's smbldap-tools. this is usually where I find out that I have something wrong. I edited the smbldap_bind.conf, tried to run smbldap-populate and received:

I ran testparm and everything was okay. Then I tried net getlocalsid and ended up with this error:

From past experience I knew it was my passdb backend that was incorrect so I jst commented it out and went on.
The configuration continues with /etc/smbldap-tools/smbldap.conf; I just put in the SID I got from net getlocalsid and headed over to # LDAP Suffix.
These are the changes I made inthat file:

Well it’s been a few days since I wrote in here. My mother is in town, I’m so glad she is around granted she’s my mother but she is also my best friend. My little wanted to come up so badly but her visit will have to wait till summer when school give holiday.
My mother was just telling me the other day that I should bathe with some lime water….. for those who are not sure of the significance of that it’s to rid urself of the ‘saltness’. Saltness u say? Well I guess u can say it translate to bad luck in one’s life. Trust for the past few years some would categorize my life as being ‘salty’.
Besides that thought things might be looking up or me I wish socially but alas it is not. It seems more financially I really hope it works out.
Man the fitness things is still being pushed back on the back burner for some odd reason. I always making up excuses why I don’t try an do better to my plan.

More an more im starting to think that i should use some of my refund money an join a gym again. that woudl be the best thing for me.
For both the physical an mental aspects of it. I'm so happy my mother is flying in later on today!!!! i havent seen her for like 2-3 years.

Recieved a sweet business offer today an if it;ss really legit it would be a god send. Even if itonly works out for like a year i would be happy. I'll cross all my fingers an toes, granted there is some skepticism abot the whole ordeal but we'll see.

U know a fren brought something to my attention a little while ago…. If I feel the way I do because my roommate is showing her boyfriend more attention then she shows me. U know i had to think about that one for a little while. u see she was more then just a reguallr fre. i've known her since i was like I was like 11. Even hada decent crush on her.. but we grew up an slightly apart. But i've lways cared/ liked her. So yeah it kind of hard at times…. But believe me when I say I have moved on. We tried at a relationship but it was too one sided. Since iwent throught that I know what I want in my woman an soul mate. Like I said in a earlier post it has made me stronger… granted i've gone through hell but I don’t think I would change what has happened…. It has made me stronger an what I am today.

Today was uneventful just trying to do my taxes that damn ritual we all have to do in the beginning of the year…. It sucks… it sucks even more if u owe Uncle Sam money. OHH .... Where to begin, first off let me say the fitness thing hasn't happened yet :-( . But I'll get their soon enough I have to. (my health depends on it). It’s not like I’m a big man but seems like my body is dense because I don’t really see any major weight difference on the outside but dammit seems like its reeking havoc on my inside. I need to hurry up an go to the doctor an get a check up to make sure whatever is happening tome isn’t really all that bad.

With the events that have happened in my life in the past 2 years i've come to realise to some extent what i want in a mate. If u ask me i've been through hell an back..... with a foot still stuck in there.
U can help out a fren to an extent but trust me only make it go but so far. Cause u could be making a choice that has more affect on ur life than u would hope. I had someone who really cared for me an the feeling was mutual, but... i don't know what happened i guess I let a past love take over my present life. With doing that it messed up all chances with the person I was dealing with at the time. These past two years have taught me alot... i've seen myself grow in these years more than i would of ever hoped.

I won't go into the gory details of those years,.. but now i know i want to be with someone who cares for me. Who isn't afraid to show me that they care. U always hear that sex isn't everything in a relationship an of course we as young ppl might gawk at it; but dammit that is sooo true. I think we take for granted how far just a little hug, or even the mere presence of the one u care for can do for u. Yeah I know coming from a man that might sound kind of softish.. but trust me it's true.

Basically I just wanna say don't take the relationship ur in for granted.... an don't tag someone along just for ur interests. It's not a nice feeling when ur the one being hurt.... casue like they say Shit wiil come back to haunt u.
